SBVT II is, as the name suggests, based on the preamp of the legendary Ampeg SVT. I tried out a version of this years ago and was never fully happy with it, so after countless revisions I finally have something special. This is the tone you’ve heard on countless records and shaking countless stages in every genre of music. Great care was taken to keep the tone of the preamp in tact while adding some convenient features for the modern player. The Mids Frequency selector was expanded to an 8-position switch instead of the 5-position that Ampeg used, allowing greater flexibility with the EQ. A balanced XLR D.I. output was added so you can deliver your tone straight to the front of house or recording interface, and both the 1/4″ and XLR outputs have independent volume controls as well as independent bypass switches, so you have complete control over what sound is going where.
The heart of the SBVT II EQ section comes from a custom-wound inductor from Unagi Magnetics, manufactured to replicate the inductors used by Ampeg in the original SVT units. The EQ is a three-band tonestack which allows both boost and cut of all three bands, meaning all three knobs at 12 o’clock gives a “flat” setting. SBVT II also has Ultra Hi and Ultra Low switches like the original SVT, allowing you to extend the lows and highs of the preamp, for when you really need that extra rumble or that extra clarity.
The first batch of SBVT II enclosures had a misprint (my fault) and will be discounted 5%. Updated enclosures have been ordered and will the page will be updated accordingly when they arrive.
SBVT II comes with three 12AX7 (ECC83) tubes and is equipped with an Unagi Magnets E4305 D.I. transformer.
As a tube pedal, SBVT II requires a high amount of current to operate correctly. I recommend a 9-12VDC power supply capable of delivering at least 900mA, and all SBVT II units will ship with a 9V 1000mA power supply (100-240VAC 50-60Hz input, international operation). Using a supply providing less than 900mA can potentially damage the power supply in use and/or the pedal.
